Instagram has announced a new video feature today called Reels...

With TikTok banned in certain countries, Reels, which has already been launched in these countries, is set to roll out in more than 50 countries, including the United States, as of August.

So, what is Instagram Reels?

Instagram users can create and edit 15-second videos using audio, effects, and creative tools with Reels. These videos can be shared as posts or stories.

Here are some steps to understand Instagram Reels:

Audio: Users can select from Instagram's music library and also use their original sounds. When using original sounds on public accounts, the sound will be attributed to the account, allowing others to use it in their own Reels videos.

AR Effects: The gallery includes various Augmented Reality effects prepared by content creators from Instagram and around the world.

Timer and Countdown: Timer and countdown features allow for hands-free video recording.

Alignment: Objects in a clip can be aligned to achieve a smooth transition between two clips.

Speed: Certain parts of videos and sounds can be sped up or slowed down. Reels videos can be shot in separate clips and then merged. Videos can also be shot in one take. Additionally, you can create Reels by uploading videos from your gallery.

Public accounts can share Reels videos in the Reels section on the Explore page, giving them the opportunity to be discovered by the Instagram community. Reel videos using specific songs, hashtags, or effects can also be viewed on dedicated pages for those songs, hashtags, or effects.

Private accounts can only share Reels videos with their followers. Others cannot use the original sounds from these videos, and the videos cannot be shared with people who do not follow the private account.

Once a Reels video is ready, it can be saved as a draft, the cover image can be changed, text/hashtags can be added, and friends can be tagged on the sharing screen. Shared Reels videos have a dedicated tab in the profile. Reels videos shared in the feed will also appear on the main profile tab.
